If you’re looking for a “romantic” destination to go climbing with your partner, Malta could be a first choice! Not only is there good climbing and deep water soloing, there’s lots of sun, sea, and culture - all the ingredients for a special climbing trip!
Malta boasts a mixture of climbing styles (there being far more trad routes than sport) and there is a small but active group of local climbers (about 35 in total!). There are about 1300 routes on the Maltese archipelago of which 15% is sport. The majority of the trad routes are to be found on Malta itself but the best sport climbing is on Gozo. Also, there’s a fair bit of deep water soloing on Malta, Comino, and Gozo, the best being on Comino.
There is so much traditional sea-cliff climbing on the islands it is hard to pick where to go. To make your choice easier, the Rock Climbing Atlas describes the more well-trodden crags, which will generally be equipped with lower-offs and be easily accessible.
